LOW PRESSURE MERCURY (UV) LAMPS
 Ultraviolet (UV) light is electromagnetic radiation with a wavelength shorter than visible light, but longer then X-Rays and energies from 3eV to 124 eV. Ultraviolet light has two peaks at 253.7nm and 185 nm due to the peak emission of the mercury within the bulb. About 80-85% of the UV produced by theselamps is at 253.7nm, while only 15-20% is at 185nm. Germicidal lamps use quartz (glass) with some additive added to block the 185nm wavelength. They can be modified to produce a UVA, UVB and UVC.
 Such Low Pressure Mercury Lamps are used extensively for disinfection and surface (cleaning and modification) process to increase surface tension and adhesion power. These low-pressure lamps have a typical efficiency of approximately thirty to thirty-five percent, meaning that for every 100 watts of electricity consumed by the lamp, it will produce approximately 30-35 watts of total UV output. 

How to select a Low Pressure Mercury Lamps
There are three types of Silica glass that are used
to manufacture Low Pressure Mercury (UV) Lamps


Ordinary Fused Quartz glass referred to as (H) type glass which allows
   some 185nm ray to penetrate through the glass. It can generate small
   amount of Ozone for applications that does not require large amount of
   Ozone.


Ozone Free Quartz glass referred to as (L) type glass. Only allows 200nm
   or above to penetrate through and consequently generate no ozone.


Synthetic Quartz galss referred to as (S) type glass which are used
  to optimize the 185nm wavelength irradiation and Ozone generation.


Low Pressure Mercury Lamps are also
classified according to their outputs

 Low output class with an intensity of 5mW/cm2 
 Standard output class with an intensity of 14mW/cm2
 High output class with an intensity of 22mW/cm2 
 Ultra High output class with an intensity of 50mW/cm2

The intensity shown above is of a new lamp and has been measured at 10mm
  distance from the surface of the lamp. Each lamp can have an average of 5,000
   to 6,000 hours of effective life span depending to the lamp's wattage and the
  conditions at which is used.





          NEW Life Extended Low Pressure Mercury Lamps 
         A new Technology has allowed to manufacture Low Pressure Mercury  
         lamps with an effective life span of 1.5 times of the standard UV lamps.
